- âThe skull of Eotriceratops is estimated to be among the largest of any land animal ever found, potentially exceeding 2.5 meters in length, rivaling or surpassing even Triceratops in sheer head size.
- âEotriceratops lived right at the very end of the Cretaceous period approximately 66 million years ago, meaning it may have been alive when the asteroid that wiped out non-avian dinosaurs struck the Earth.
- âAs a member of Chasmosaurinae, Eotriceratops belongs to the same subfamily as Triceratops and Torosaurus, all of which had elongated frills and were among the most heavily armed plant-eaters of their era.
- âThe species name xerinsularis comes from the Greek xeros meaning dry and the Latin insularis meaning island, a nod to Dry Island, the eroded badlands plateau in Alberta where the fossil was unearthed.
