Fun Facts
- âFruitadens is one of the smallest ornithischian dinosaurs ever discovered, with adults weighing as little as half a kilogram, roughly the same as a can of soup.
- âUnlike most dinosaurs, Fruitadens had different types of teeth in its mouth, including small front teeth and larger fang-like canine teeth, which is incredibly rare among ornithischians.
- âFruitadens lived at the very end of the Jurassic period around 145 to 143 million years ago, making it one of the last-known members of its entire family, Heterodontosauridae.
- âAt least four individual Fruitadens of different ages have been found, giving scientists a rare snapshot of how this dinosaur grew from juvenile to adult.
- âFruitadens was formally named and described in 2010 by paleontologist Richard Butler and his team in a paper published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, even though the fossils had been sitting in museum collections for years before anyone realized what they were.
