Fun Facts
- âDeltadromeus was described in 1996 by Paul Sereno, the same paleontologist famous for discovering SuperCroc, the 40-foot crocodilian Sarcosuchus, in those very same Kem Kem Beds of Morocco.
- âScientists have never found the skull of Deltadromeus. Everything we know about its face and teeth is an educated guess based on comparisons with related theropods, making its true appearance one of paleontology's open mysteries.
- âSome paleontologists believe that Deltadromeus and Bahariasaurus, a large predator from Egypt, may actually be the same animal. If confirmed, one of those names would have to disappear forever under the rules of scientific naming.
- âDeltadromeus had the proportions of a dinosaur greyhound: its legs were strikingly long and slender for its body size, strongly suggesting it was built for speed in a way most large predators simply were not.
- âIn the Cenomanian period, the land that is now the Sahara Desert was a lush tropical floodplain crossed by massive rivers, and Deltadromeus hunted there alongside at least two other giant carnivores, Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus.
